more Food and Wine show

Hi there all.

Yesterday I wrote a rather negative blog about the Good Food and Wine show. I mentioned how it was disappointing and that in many ways I expected more from the show. Oh and then there was my dismay at the OTT Gordon Ramsay stage entrance through the smoke. Yes indeed I had much to gripe about. However I did mention that I had a lot of fun too. Which may have been mostly the wine that was in my system, but hey, whatever helps I suppose!

Now before I carry on you must understand I am not a fan of alcohol. In fact I seldom drink, unless of course it’s a glass of wine with dinner. However every now and then it’s ok to let loose, with a designated driver close at hand of course….and in my case, a loving girlfriend to reign me in when I start bothering strangers! DRINK RESPONSIBLY!

Ok moving on. I thought I’d share with you some of my highlights and WTH moments from the event.

First up I had to laugh at the Princess brand, who have quite a yummy range of pesto. Reason being, they made their assistants dress up like little whimsical angels…now this was giggle worthy enough, but when I saw that the poor bloke who was working the stand also got sucked into wearing angel wings I had to take a picture…luckily the Princess pesto man is blurred in this image, so at least his identity is safe from public scorn…not that he didn’t get bombarded enough during the event I suppose. Honestly it takes a rather brave dude to take one for the team like this. I salute you Princess pesto angel man.

Good Food & Wine Show review

Good food and wine review

Greetings fully full Food Lovers!

Well as I’m sure some of you would have seen that I did a little blog about the Good Food and Wine show which blew through Cape Town last weekend. The event was quite a mixed bag of awesome, lame and WTF! Yes indeed, depending on your standpoint of the culinary world you were either in for a feast or a fast.

Luckily I am not in the food industry so I didn’t have such high expectations, so from my standpoint I actually had quite a lot of fun. Although if I can give one or two niggley comment, I feel the tickets were slightly expensive (even the R80 tickets) for the amount of food you were able to test out. I mean there is only so many pieces of bread u can dip in balsamic vinegar and olive oil before you feel sick. The stand who put together the cocktails made the single-handed worst Mojito of my entire life….syrups = gross dudes. It wasn’t about taste it was about churning out drinks for money…NOT COOL!

Ok ok, besides those one or two poofie factors, I had fun. I especially loved the wine tasting aspect. I grabbed a glass on entry for R20 and made sure I got my money’s worth. Although being armed with a tasty Birkenhead beer in one hand and a glass of wine in the other meant I was seriously cruising for trouble. Shooo, by the time I made the circuit of the place I was unmanageable, much to the horror of my better half and buddies who had to keep a close eye on me so that I didn’t storm the Ramsay show…and probably get killed by bouncers. Truthfully the tastiest thing I had the entire evening was from this little mushroom stand that did an absolutely drool-tastic mixed exotic mushroom pie. I’m not even the biggest mushroom fan…but this was mind blowing!

Good Food & Wine Show

Food & Wine show

Hi there friends.

If you love food as much as I do then you will no doubt have heard all about the Good Food & Wine Show…or the Gordon Ramsay Food Thingie, as many people have been calling it.
Boys and girls this show is going to be the culinary experience of the year and will not only be gracing the Mother City, but will also be pulling in to Durban and of course Jozies.
I really want to get across to the Cape Town International Conference Centre and check out what is on offer and if I’m really lucky maybe even check out a few of the live cooking exhibitions…that would be tasty indeed!

The Good Food & Wine Show will have an absolute sensory overload of exciting events to sink your teeth into. There will be a whole host of highly respected International celebrity chefs that will blow you away with their charisma and cooking skills. Of course as I hinted above the main attraction is none other than that b@st@&d “Hell’s Kitchen” chef, who we love to hate, Gordon Ramsay.
Yes indeed this hardcore chef will have us all on the edge of our seats while he whips up mouth watering morsels fit for a king.

Other well respected chefs that will be wowing the crowds in Cape Town will be Eric Lanlard who is a master pastry chef and also Giorgio Locatelli who is a supremely gifted Italian chef from the UK.
Here is a list of the chefs on the main site which if you give a click will also give you some background on their cooking disciplines and personal history.

WolFox in-store

Mike of WolFox

Ello one and all.

Today has been a good day so far, not only was my contextual English exam a lot “friendlier” than I thought it would be, but I also had a surprise visit from none other than Mike from the super design duo of WolFox.
Thats right WolFox was in-store…and as common sense would assume, he is a really cool dude!

First off I have to say that I’m such an idiot. For whatever reason I didn’t click that Mike is in fact also the designer we all know and love called Mikdog. Yes, I’m that much of a chop…please forgive me Mike.
