Yes indeed the Indie rock scene has really been pumping lately. I suppose everyone is trying to find new sounds in the rock genre so the upcoming bands are really trying to push the envelope with their sound. While I do enjoy quite few of the more Indie bands these days like Postal Service and The Shout Out Louds (if these bands are still considered Indie I have no idea). The Indie scene has however spawned a rather weird and wonderful dress sense…I’m not exactly sold on it I’m afraid. In many ways it reminds me of the 80’s where everyone seemed to be wearing outlandish styles that just seemed to have no correlation to each other. Anyway I thought I’d take a look at an Indie fashion style that seems to be quite popular and that is Indie style jackets.
Perhaps the most notorious of the Indie style jackets at the moment has to be the military style “drummer boy” variety. Yes we have seen the dudes from Parlotones wearing them, as well as international acts like Fall out Boy. These drummer boy indie jackets are all over the place recently and seem to have a huge following. I suppose these jackets appeal to those who want to try and separate themselves into this particular genre, or just plain looking for trouble.
I’m not trying to be funny but where I grew up in Durban guys wearing jackets like this would be hassled to no end. I’ve seen them down here in Cape Town, but the Mother City’s ‘artsy fartsy’ vibe seems to support the different crowd. Which is cool, everyone should be allowed to wear what they want…even if they look like fools.
So, has everyone gotten across and started voting for the Retro design theme competition yet?
I jumped on as soon as it went live and got my voting finished and ‘klaar’. There are some very promising designs that have potential to not only win but to also work out as great t-shirt designs that the consumers are going to LOVE!
One designer that has submitted some really simple and easy retro designs is Hachiman. Let’s take a look at his two awesome designs for the competition. Hachiman design here we come!
Hachiman has been knocking aroundSpringleap.com for quite some time and really puts all his effort into the submissions he sends through. Hip Hop is Undead and hilarious Got Pulse designs from a little while back, they were both super wicked, but unfortunately didn’t make the design cut. Well, Hachiman is back and this time trying to get a win with our Retro theme competition.
His first design is entitled Ooh Barracuda…which instantly reminds me of Lucy Liu in the first Charlie’s Angels flick. But nay this design is all about the retro vibes of the 70’s. When there were mostly strange cars and really dodgy dress sense…well for the most part I suppose. However the music was good and the times…well they were a changingJ
This design really does the 70’s proud with its washed out style colour and iconic imagery from the era itself. Not a bad design at all and perhaps something that will sit well with our older voters.
