Ello ello!
Honestly I can’t count how many time people have phoned the store and asked me if we have any funky designs. Now while I do my best to find a design which indeed fits the category of funky, it has become very clear to me that every single person has their own idea of what actually constitutes funky designs. I had a look through our most recent designs from the competition and tried to connect the dots. However I’m not sure I’m any closer to a concrete theory. You let me know what you think.
Personally I feel that funky designs are best described as designs that have a certain retro vibe to them. When you think funk your mind should shoot back to the days when afro’s, bell bottoms, vinyl records and of course funk music of the 1960’s, which in itself had a very urban vibe.
These days however funky designs seem to be a rather wide ranging genre which includes items that are “different” or extremely colourful.
Perhaps the word itself has been adapted and transformed into an entirely different description. I find especially the younger generation have no solid perspective of what exactly a funky design is. This I suppose isn’t so difficult to understand when you consider how amalgamated style has become in our day in age. Every few years a style will simply reinvent itself and emerge from the shades of the past and become the “latest fashion”.
