Hello there all you fans of fantasy art.
Without doubt my favourite form of art has to be in the realm of fantasy. Sad news reached my eyes today when I discovered that legendary Frank Frazetta had passed away at the ripe old age of 82.
This was indeed a heavy piece of news for me personally as I have always admired his work as some of the most influential fantasy art, or art in general, that I have ever laid my eyes on. He is and always will be one of my favourite artists of the genre.
The first piece I ever saw of Frank Frazetta was his now famous Death Dealer. This is most certainly a masterful fantasy design, saturated in deep fantasy grit. It is up there as one of my best but there are so many others that just blow me away and give me limitless ideas for fantasy writing. I remember back when I was a DM for Dungeons & Dragons I would stare at his design for ages and come up with some really awesome storylines. If I had to pick a favourite it would be probably one of his Conan (with whom I’m obsessed) pieces. Maybe the one that is entitled “Conan” I think, that being the one with Conan shackled in a dungeon with a huge snake towering over him….such a powerful image. But, seriously I don’t actually want to label any of his designs a favourite…they are all epic and timeless. In the future when students of art are studying our era and they look at the fantasy artists, I want Frank Frazetta’s work to be on the frigging front page of the workbook.
