There is no doubt that if you are living in South Africa right now you will know all about the terrible flames of racism that are being fanned by certain factions in government and in the community. To say that this is “sad” is the understatement of the century! Can you imagine how Madiba feels about all these troubles and the freedom that he and the ANC fought to create? This is one horrible turn of events that I hope gets mediated from the powers that be very quickly indeed!
I can’t really offer any real comfort to anybody, because I’m as much in the dark as anybody else. However I thought I’d showcase 1 or 2 designs that are very South African and could perhaps help to get our minds back into a state that is conducive to creating a free and equal South Africa!
Check out these South African designs.
One design that I have always loved and feel is truly South African is the Star Worsdesign which pokes fun at a well known movie franchise and turns it on its head by making it truly “local ‘n lekker” by making it Wors instead of Wars. Now I bet some of you are saying, it’s not South African its Afrikaans. But then you have to argue that you don’t partake in braai’s and don’t eat boerewors…which has got to be a lie.
This design makes you smile ear to ear and even sets those patrioticfires burning in your heart. Yes indeed, this is a great design for the times! This is a SOUTH AFRICAN tradition that we ALL partake in. Star Wors is a design that I feel really fits in with the best South African designs!
After a fiercely contested battle during the 8-bit Bytes back competition, we have finally released the winning design. Three cheers go out to Mikdog for his super retro gaming design Pac-Man’s Nightmare.
There was never any doubt that there would be a flood of Pac-Man inspired design in this competition. After all Pac-Man is a character that embodies the 8-bit generation to its very core.
While I am a little surprised at the winning design, because it wasn’t even on my top design watch for this compo, it still deserves some serious props for taking the win!
There is quite a firm following of fans for this design and the obvious retro vibe is hard to ignore.
Not only is this design retro-licious, but it also has a unique humour that elevates it high above any normal Pac-Man designs. Yes indeed this design is packed with fun video game originality.
Pac-Man having a nightmare about those scary hungry ghosties…yup that is indeed frightening for our little yellow friend….aaiieeeeee!
We had very high expectations for this competition, especially considering the number of old school game fans out there. Mikdog is actually one designer who is perhaps even more in love with the retro game style than most of the other leapers. Go across to his design page and you will see exactly what I mean.
My favourite design from Mikdog is undoubtedly his Infinity design that went down very well with the voters. I feel as if Pac-Man’s Nightmare is a kinda different style than we are used to from him…then again, so is his other retro submission Space Invader, which I also enjoyed.
Well there we have it, our 8-bit Bytes Back competition winner. Well done once again to Mikdog for some truly old school design prowess.
Please bear in mind the Springleap Us theme competition is still on the cards and that there are some seriously wicked designs entered. Show your support and get voting, also please leave some constructive criticism if you have any insights into these designers work. All of your positive informative comments help the designers grow and deliver evenbetter designs.
