Hi there Springleapers.
Once again we have a super cool theme competition up for voting. So, I thought I would show you my personal 8-bit bytes back top designs.
I knew that this competition was going to be a hectic one to vote on, but I’m actually quite confident of my 8-bit bytes back top designs choices. Each one of them has a little “sumthin-sumthin” that takes their level of power to the next level.
My first design of interest is also probably my favourite of the competition. The stunning 8-bit masterpiece entitled My name is Frank by Jungiestroke, is probably one of the coolest 8-bit designs I have ever seen. Obviously the design is a representation of what an 8-bit Frankenstein would look like.
Hey, who says Frank is a bad natured animated construct, just look at how happy and fun he looks. Plus he’s wearing a cross, so maybe this version of Frank even goes to church on Sundays hehehe.
I know this design is a tad gory…well in fact I haven’t seen such a gory design since the super well known 28 Smurfs Later design. But don’t worry the blood is 8-bit digital so it’s not quite as offensive ![]()
I take my hat off to Jungiestroke for his super cool My name is Frank design, truly awesome design chief!
Next up at number two and also my second favourite of the compo is Sergio37’s iconic design Epics.
This super cool submission is jammed full of Americana inspired symbolism of the US Marine Corps memorial.
Of course, being an 8-bit theme Sergio37 has taken his own unique perspective and integrated some of the best video game characters of all time. In fact it can be said that these characters are all soldiers in their own right…Marine Corps of the Video Game revolution if you will. Honestly about the only thing that throws this design off its perfect balance is that Sergio has used characters that were never truly represented in 8-bit…like Lara Croft for example.
However if you overlook this possibly anal observation, this design is a shoe-in for the 8-bit bytes back compo win!
Last and certainly not least (well of my top 3 it may be last, but you know what I mean lol) we have the killer cool design Super Luigi by none other than design winning maestro CHUCKY.
This time around CHUCKY has deviated from his normal style and has instead gone for a different look.
Have you ever wondered if Luigi held a grudge against Mario for always being in the limelight and going home with the Princess?? Well CHUCKY’s stunning new design points and then rubs salt in the wound of this sensitive subject. Yep, Luigi turns into a murdering maniac when he finally snaps….the terror!!
Super Luigi is definitely a design to watch out for. In fact it has the type of design mojo that has the potential of garnering lots of support.
So yeah there we have my 8-bit bytes back top designs, each with it’s own unique and interesting take on our 8-bit theme. While Super Luigi and Epics are both not exactly what I was expecting for the competition, they are both very worthy submissions. What did I expect? Well pretty much an 8-bit design style I suppose, which My name is Frank captures perfectly and with tons of originality.
Good luck to not only these 3 designers, but everyone who took the time to design and submit their work.

Duncs.
