Ok guys and girls get ready for the Coke Fest 2010 line up….its, its….of cr@p its been cancelled!
Thats right all you music lovers out there, the bad news comes as a landslide of disappointment that we will no doubts be writhing in until 2011…well, that is unless something else comes up to spoil it again.
Coke Fest 2010 is cancelled due to the World Cup football event.
This hasn’t been the best 2 years for the Coke Fest has it? Firstly, last year the line-up was quite horrendous and now the event won’t even be taking place. It seemed that everyone was focused on how Coke Fest would gain our trust in 2010 with a stellar line-up…I mean it wasn’t going to be difficult to top 2009. However I don’t think anyone anticipated the fact that the music would degenerate to the brain frying sound of vuvuzelas LOLZ. Unfortunately vuvuzelas will be the sound of the South Africa 2010! Expect premature hearing loss on a nationwide scale.

Thanks Odin’s great and fluffy beard that we have so many amazing local bands to carry us through these dark days. But, even that is not enough to quell the anger of some music lovers. While in many respects South African music is on par with that over our foreign brothers and sisters, there is that obvious gap between overall fan “density”. We love our own South African bands with a passion, but we seldom make the effort to go and watch their gigs. It’s not like I am innocent in this regard either. I love Aking, they are my favourite SA band at the moment, but I still haven’t seen one of their live acts…this is an absolute sin I know, but a reality of our music scene in SA.
The Coke Fest 2010 is cancelled…but why?
Surely if it’s around the same time there will be even more people to grab up tickets and enjoy an event with international bands. In my opinion it’s a better time as any to tie in the World Cup with a huge music event to show that we can indeed host big name bands? Look I’m just a humble writer so I’m sure there is a whole host of reasons…I just wish somebody from the event organizers, or somebody else who is clued up, would let us know the exact reason why we are missing out on great international acts this year.
Pretty please, enlighten us!
