Military Surplus

ATTENTION!

The world of high fashion is always is a constant state of flux. While the upper echelons of the fashion world compete ceaselessly to out-perform their competitors by becoming even more experimental and blurring the lines between male and female styles, there is one “fashion style” that I feel will always have a cult following.
That is of course the world of army surplus garments!

Hehe I suppose you were expecting me to talk about jeans and t-shirts again lol.
No, I have always been a fan of the military. Not because of the violence, not because of the atrocities that they visit upon humanity for the sake of a few, but for the practicality and simplicity in all that they design.

Protective implants

Protective Implants

Greetings one and all.

Have you heard about the woman who was saved from gunfire from her D-cup breast implants?
Sounds like some kind of character from an anime doesn’t it! Well it would appear that an American woman can tell you that fact is honestly sometimes stranger than fiction.
Protective Implants perhaps the way of the future?

Just another day at the office turned into a living nightmare for Lydia Carranza when her co-workers husband walked in with a semi-automatic rifle and opened fire. He shot his wife’s brother in the stomach and then killed his own wife…after that he let loose and simply opened up on the entire office. Obviously this fellow is properly deranged!

Lydia Carranza was hit in the arm and attempted to play dead, but the gunman walked over to her and shot her again point blank in the chest. Here is the twist though! Her life was saved, experts say, by the D-cup implant operation she had undergone. Basically the force of the bullet was slowed and perhaps even had its trajectory altered by the implant.
Bullet fragments narrowly missed her heart and other vital organs. The doctor who will be reconstructing her breast says that it is highly likely if she did not have the implants that she would be dead.
It’s amazing to think that a breast implant could have so much protective ability. Of course I’m not saying that this is a great excuse for all the ladies out there to go get implants to make them impervious to bullets…indeed it was a fluke that she managed to survive the murderous attack.

T.W.A.K

T.W.A.K

Hey, are you talking T.W.A.K or what?

Whilst running around the Design Indaba on the weekend (I warned you there would be non-stop Design Indaba reviews lol) I came across a stand that I felt really appealed to the environmentalist in me.
T.W.A.K, or Trees with a Conscience, is a furniture and home accessories designer/producer that has a very eco-aware vibe.

So what makes T.W.A.K eco-aware? Well to put it simply Trees with a Conscience works with certified forest concession in Mozambique. What this mean is that this forward thinking company mostly uses the off cuts of wood from mills, controlled reforestation programmes, fires and even poaching. Basically T.W.A.K only takes wood from areas and companies that strictly adhere to lumber cutting laws and which are annually audited by a non-profit organization that monitors the world’s forests.
