Koa

Koa

Hi there all.

First of all I’m just warning you know that I will speaking about Design Indaba 2010 non-stop this week (and perhaps next). I was overwhelmed by the sheer abundance of awesome interior ideas and fantastic emerging design companies.
One particular stand that caught my attention is Koa, which brings together some slick interior design and product design elements.

Koa itself was started in 2009 by Annelie Schutte and Liesl Morison, who together have quite the ‘boat load’ of experience when it comes to not only interior design but also cutting edge product design. This wonderful design duo, concentrate on “Furniture, lighting and accessories”, which I must say I was rather impressed with.

Perhaps my favourite item on their stand was their simple, yet stunningly put together Lily Paper Lamps. These stylish lamps are made out of a single piece of paper and folded origami style to make an absolutely breathtaking design. I’m obsessed with anything origami so I instantly fell in love with these cool lil lamps. They come in three colours: Red, silver and white. Here are the lights dimensions: height 380mm x width 350mm.
So yeah they aren’t overly gargantuan…although I would love to see a bigger version, wink wink nudge nudge ladies ;)

My favourite colour is the red, but of course it depends on where you want them for…we all have different needs after all hehe.

Chad Lesch

Chad Lesch

Greetings friends.

The only thing that makes me happier than seeing a deserving designer walk away with a win on Springleap.com, is actually seeing that designers career take off even further.
In this regard we need not look any further than Chad Lesch who we all know around these parts as Quack.|
I spotted Chap at the Design Indaba over the weekend and was thrilled to see him doing so well.

While in some respects I suppose you could say that Chad “graduated” from Springleap.com and moved on in his own personal design endeavours, there is no doubt that this killer designer would have made it with or without our help.
Perhaps the most memorable of his designs was his super cool Icecreamonster design that walked away with the top spot in our very first competition.

Since that first win, Chad Lesch has graced us with many of his designs…most of which have ended up being printed. I feel as if the community really “got” his particular design style.
His blobbie characters are definitely my favourite of his work, especially the very memorable design entitled BlastOff Roar…which is totally classic.
