Most of you festival lovers out there in the Western Cape would have undoubtedly already heard that Rocking the Daisies 2009 is just around the corner (9-11 October). Well actually it’s this weekend, so less around the corner and more RIGHT NOW!
This year the line-up looks just as good as the previous year, with the best local bands coming out to show you that South African rock….ROCKS. Rocking the Daisies is also probably the most eco aware, green festival around, which is great news for all the hippies.
Like last year, Red Bull RADAR and Rocking The Daisies will be collaborating with Speakerbox.co.za in order to bring you emerging underground rock talent by giving three relatively unknown bands the chance to play with our countries best. The three lucky bands that made the cut were Sean Hayz Band, Jinx and She Man Lion. Truth to tell out of those 3 I only recognise She Man Lion, who I believe are absolutely brilliant. If the other two bands are of the same calibre, I think the big bands better watch their backs, coz they may just steal the thunder. If you are going and have some time to get across to support these up and comers PLEASE DO.
South African rock is going places in a big way!
Great news for anyone out there who is a fan of thought provoking science-fiction, that is unique and highly intelligent. Iain Banks has just released his new book entitled Transition.
Anyone who is familiar with this brilliant writer, will understand why I am so excited to hear that he has new material out. Nobody can spin a sci-fi tale of such immense proportions quite like Iain Banks.
Transition is a story that centres around a secret organization called The Concern. This group has the ability to slip between the many dimensions of our universe and tweak events in order to produce “favourable outcomes” for any given world. Transition has multiple narrator-characters, all of whom have their lives and realties altered by the changing, or “fliting” as they call it, of various realties.
The ability to flit between dimensions is only possible for people who are born with this natural talent, but who can only do so after consuming a mysterious drug called septus. When they jump into a different reality , they inhabit the body of a person living in that reality and gain emotional/personality side effects from individuals.
