Greetings one and all.
Fans of the super popular local design magazine One Small Seed will be stoked to hear that their 4th anniversary issue has just arrived at the Springleap.com store in Sea Point.
Issue 16 is crammed from cover to cover with the latest and greatest that the design world has to offer.
As always there is shockingly enticing photography, gripping articles and mega insightful interviews with talented folks from every design arena.
One Small Seed issue 16 is ready to rock your socks off, with all the oomf they can muster in aid of birthday celebrations.
As a gift from One Small Seed to you, their loyal customers, they have slipped in a FREE music CD bursting with ‘local is lekker’ audio pleasure, which will set the mood for the anniversary atmosphere.
Scope it out, the CD has artists like Taxi Violence, Van Coke Kartel, Catwalktrash and the ever popular aKing.
So in my best Mr.T voice, ”Holy Moly son…thats CRAZY!”
Wicked! So now that we have some groovy tunes going in the background, now we can open our very own One Small Seed issue 16 and have a lookie at the bountiful info.
First up we have the amazing graphic art of Ryosuke Mori, who goes by the name Marumiyan when it comes to his unique and beautiful work.
How to describe his work, hmmm well it definitely has its roots in Japanese manga, however Marumiyan takes it to the next level by fusing the well known manga style and incorporating lavish natural elements which play off each other in tantalizing mix of old meets new.
This showcase in One Small Seed issue 16 is the very FIRST of its kind outside of Asia.
What can I say, great work for spotting this talent and bringing it to our attention guys. Definitely my best design in the issue.
I thoroughly enjoyed the article by Jon Monsoon about mashup music. You know the type of music or video that integrates multiple artists and genres? Seriously if you haven’t been in contact with at least a bit of this form of music you either live in a cave or don’t actually know that you are listening to a mashup.
This article talks about the influence on the internet spreading the gospel of the mashup across borders and into the lives of everybody who is “plugged in”. Obviously Jon makes us aware of the legal issues that come along with mashup’s. When is it ok to simply take an artist music property and smoosh it together with someone elses hard work…it’s a fine line.
Great article Jon, I especially enjoyed the words from Fletcher Beadon, who said he, “realised that rugby commentary and a tearing drum ‘n bass tune can actually go very well together”. Damn that was hilarious, somebody seriously needs to point me in the direction of an example of rugga drum ‘n bass.
One Small Seed issue 16 also brings to life a colourful fashion shoot entitled Nu Denim.
Nu Denim has a very strong pop that takes some of the best denim around and blasts it with outrageously bright neon colours. The shoot, which was conceptualized and photographed by Eric Uys, takes Guess and Diesel jeans and funks them up with accessories from places like The Lot and Misfit.
This fashion shoot is ready to gear you up for a fresh and fun spring/summer.
Okok I think thats enough info to get those design taste buds craving the new issue.
Come on over to Springleap.com in Sea Point to grab yourself your very own shiny tasty copy.
If you need directions give me a shout on: 021 464 1220.
Could this issue be even better than issue 15? You be the judge.
Duncs.
