Steampunk is a very intriguingfashion subculture which has emerged almost in violent reaction to the modern world’s obsession with mass production and its consumerist society. In some ways it is a subculture still madly in love with the inventiveness and creativity of modern technology yet disillusioned with the flat plastic facades of the modern machine.
Having it roots and parallels in the dystopian worlds of Cyberpunk, the amazing fashion of Steampunk is rather a nostalgic and romantic view of a technological advanced world which has still maintained the values of craftsmanship, ingenuity and revolution.It as if we could visit a parallel reality in which the great achievements of the Bauhaus and its grand modernist paradigm where laughed at and instead mankind developed the themes of the Victorian era to their logical end.
Today sees the world celebrating one of the greatest designs that has taken man on a journey of perpetual question, and what many say was the birth of Modern science itself. The designed instrument in question? Galileo’s telescope of course. Unfortunately the father of modern science cannot be credited with the first telescope design or creation for that matter but his designinnovation and subtle tinkering of the original are what fuelled the imagination of academics, philosophers and religious zealots the world over.
There are numerous fashion shows around the world that captivate the fashion industrybig-wigs. However there are an elite few that exceed even the mightiest of expectations. One such show is the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
Whats more this show is not found in one glamorous location, u spread out across the globe in three different destinations.
This year the three Mercedes Benz Fashion Week locations are currently being held in Miami, Berlin and New York. Each location has its own unique flair and features the hottest design talent our world has to offer.
So far the Miami and Berlin shows have passed us by, only the New York show remains. While it’s obvious that most fashionistas will not be able to jet across to New York to enjoy the show, that doesn’t mean we can’t keep a close eye on it online and check out the trends that emerge.
