Scalped comic art

Scalped

Hiya everybody.

It’s a well documented fact that I am a huge fan of comics…no doubts there. I’ve collected comics for ages and really love heavy dark story lines that pull you in and won’t let go.
The latest comic that caught my eye is called Scalped, which is a take on American Indian reservations and the criminal entities that run them with an iron fist.
Needless to say that it’s over the top and probably a poor representation of actual life in the reservations, however it is still a brilliant read and has some of the best writers in the comic industry singing its praises.
The writer Jason Aaron is fast becoming a serious comic legend.

One thing that really blew me away about Scalped was the impeccable comic art.
The amazing story and landscape of the crime saturated streets of the
Prairie Rose Indian Reservation, are brought to life by splendid comic art by R.M. Guera and Lee Loughridge.
All in all Scalped has comic art that most uninitiated readers would call “ugly”. Yes it’s gritty and the lines are hard and foreboding, even the colour palette is dull and lacks any kind of bright happy colours.
The important thing is to move past the dreary comic design and realize that it’s crucial in order to become fully immersed in the heavy story line.
Scalped is the kind of comic that transcends pure beauty and embraces a darker appeal in order to amplify the unique and hard hitting story.
