one small seed issue 15

ISSUE 15

Hi there everybody.

Here’s some great news for all of you who are hardcore followers of the fantastic local South African pop culture magazine One Small Seed.
Issue 15 has just landed in the Springleap.com store in Sea Point and it looks set to be a good one.

This quarters one small seed focuses on what they call “Origins of an icon”, which takes a good hard look at iconic brands that we all know and love/loathe.
The theme of this new issue is made apparent by the stunning cover photo of Heather Horton (Boss Models) who is covered in iconic branding such as Coca Cola, Red Bull and Mickey Mouse.
The question begs,” what exactly defines an icon in our modern setting?”
In ancient times the gods, such as Zeus, were the first to be revered as true icons. However icons of the present such as Mercedes Benz and Nike, have become the symbols that people worship and strive to attain.
Have the modern icons become nothing more than a symbol of wealth?
Be sure to read this captivating article, it will open your eyes and help you to think laterally…well in an iconic fashion
J

So what else does issue 15 have in store for us?
Hmmm, well quite a stack of interesting articles by the looks of it.
Perhaps one of the most interesting articles in the new one small seed is the artist review of the very well known painter Tretchikoff, who was born in 1913 in Russia. This guy’s work is seriously “out of the box”. He combines traditional art with a multitude of vivid and striking colour variations.
It seems that his work was often overlooked by the art critics who thought that his style was supremely outlandish. However his followers begin to grow day by day and in the end there was no denying his artistic power. Read more about Tretchikoff and his curious mystic background.

One small seed issue 15 also treats us to a myriad of iconic legends that we as South Africans grew up and still “worship” today. Whether it’s the late great Lucky Dube, Dion Chang, or my personal favourite Barney Simon, we will all find somebody that has moved us at one point or another.
I particularly liked the Barney Simon article by Jon Monsoon, it really took me back down memory lane and the heavy tunes he used to play over the radio….ahhhh I miss those days.

Also be sure to check out the “Lucky Punk” fashion shoot which showcases a variety of funky and wild punk attire. It seems that there is quite a bit of Ed Hardy gear as well as designs by Dondup. There are also accessories aplenty by Lulu Belle and Ny.lon.
Lady’s who like something a tad darker and “rough around the edges” are going to dig the hell out of this shoot, so don’t miss out.

What can I say, another super crammed issue of one small seed.
Issue 15 will not disappoint, I assure you. What I have mentioned above is the mere tip of the proverbial iceberg. Once again the one small seed crew have delivered a quality publication. BIG UP!
So come on in and grab a copy while I still have issues left ;)

Duncs.
