2010 World Cup Makaraba

Makaraba

The 2010 World Cup is right around the corner.
Nobody can deny the electricity in the air over this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Whether you are a supporter of the event, or a sceptic who fears the repercussions of South Africa hosting the 2010 Soccer World Cup, everybody seems eager for the event itself.

South Africa has been given a unique opportunity to show the world its beauty and diverse cultural heritage.
While tourists coming for the 2010 Soccer World Cup will primarily be coming for the epic football matches between the greatest teams on Earth, they will also dive into the best South Africa has to offer, such as Game parks, beaches, South African food and energy packed night life.

There is however one truly unique South African fashion trend that foreigners will be bombarded with when they arrive in SA.
The funky converted mine workers helmets, otherwise known as Makaraba, are big beautiful and guaranteed to make the internationals stop and stare.
We as South Africans are intimately aware of this football fashion must have, and by the end of the World Cup I have no doubts that THOUSANDS of Makaraba will be making their way back overseas with many protective tourists.

It’s funny how the 2010 World Cup fever hits you. In all my life I don’t think I ever wanted a Makaraba. However, now that the best teams in football are coming here I feel a national pride and burning desire to adorn my head with a mile high Bafana Makaraba. :D
Last night on the news there was a segment on Makaraba and the multitude of, what seems like, official 2010 styles for different teams.
It’s obvious that people are going to jump on the bandwagon and go crazy creating these unique hats, its an almost certain money puller, not only for FIFA but locals as well.
What would you rather have, an official Makaraba from a stall outside the stadium, or a handmade Makaraba created by a man on the street? Hmmm I would have to support “local local” and go with the man on the street.

The funniest thing about the Makaraba is that it was originally used during matches to prevent spectators from being hit in the head by flying bottles LOL.
Don’t worry there won’t be any of that nonsense at this world cup…I’m sure.
Hmmmm, but perhaps just in case you better organise yourself a Makaraba….if only to protect yourself from high speed striker kicked soccer balls.
The 2010 World Cup Makaraba is your ONLY essential game gear….well that and the football jersey of your choice :P

Duncs.

    Hi there,

We are hosting a very large event over the weeks of the 2010 World Cup. Saying this, the build-up to the event necessitates many football themed parties, functions and socials. I am urgently looking to source these Makarabs.

Where can we buy these in wholesale?

    Dear Greg,

The original Makaraba is a hand-made product this has proven difficult to transform into a volume product.
For this World Cup, we have developed and registered an lucrative and affordable alternative that is suitable for mass trade.
