Madiba inspires again.

Everyone notices Mr Mandela when he walks into the room. For this you could give credit to his appearance, or is it because of his global stature, his grand aura, or his fashionable attire? Whatever it may be, Madiba wowed the world with many things, and he’s a clever man, so clever that he even (unintentionally or not) takes fashion in his stride.

Picture the man on a platform doing the famous ‘Madiba Shuffle’, and what is he wearing? An astonishingly colourful african print shirt. See it flapping in the wind as he raises his arms to break it down once again!

Every one of these moments in our proudly South African history is graced with a pleasant reminder that we are all part of the huge continent that is Africa, thanks to Mr Mandela. He used one tool to accomplish this task, the same tool Springleap.com uses everyday to express thoughts and messages. This tool is fashion. I’m glad Springleap.com and Madiba have something in common.

Without bombarding your eyes and ears with a repeated message in order to get through to the public, why not use fashion as a channel of communication.

Fashion is a means of expression, so take it literally. Express your thoughts and feelings by wearing something that you want people to google on the net, so that they are exposed to it too. No need for it to obvious, hidden messages work just as well, if they strike a cord with the correct crowd.

Just a thought that inspired me to write, maybe this will inspire some awesome message-driven designs.

Toodles and happy designing.
Have a rad weekend.

Lokololly:)

P.S. I nearly forgot. Those of you in Cape Town who are keen; we will be attending the Rudimentals gig at Kirstenbosch this coming Sunday. Join us for a good time. Hint: Look for green;)

Innocentive

Innocentive

The world has a lot of problems…it’s not a pleasant thought, but it’s true.
However there are people out there we act for the greater good and selflessly give of their natural talents in order to make the world a better place.
When I was at the Design Indaba last week I was reminded that we find these types of people in just about every field.

Last night I learnt of a website called Innocentive that helps businesses such as academic institutions, non-profit organizations and public sector groups, take existing problems and utilize a global group of thinkers and problem solvers from all facets of life, in order to quickly and efficiently tackle a problem that would take much larger periods of time to otherwise crack, as well as cost more money.
