Yo hoho and a bottle of rum…errr or maybe hohoho and a glass of eggnog.
Yep Christmas is only a few days away and already it has produced more than 10 billion grey hairs world wide J
Christmas is a time for giving and receiving from the people you care about…and of course a stampede of returns on the 27th LOL.I guess I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas, I enjoy chilling with family and having a good munch, but every year my blood pressure goes through the roof and have to perform last minute prezzie buying missions.
I walked through Canal Walk the other day and had to try my best not to strangle slow moving humans who don’t know how to move in a crowd…*sigh*
LOVE AND PEACE.
There is one Christmas tradition that I can’t do without and that is the heavily laced eggnog that flows freely at family gatherings.
What the heck is eggnog you may be asking, well for the uninitiated eggnog is a mythical yummy drink made primarily of egg, milk and spiced with nutmeg.Well ok, eggnog also needs to have a bit of a kick, especially at Christmas time where the screaming of kiddies perpetually rings in your skull.
I have quite a few cool eggnog recipes but I will share 2 of them with you, one for the kids and one for the adults who need to unwind a tad
Easy peasy family eggnog:
6 eggs
3 cups milk
8 tablespoons sugar
3 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, ground Grab a big bowl and beat the eggs using an electric beater, if u don’t have one don’t stress.
By turn throw in the milk and sugar.
Keep beating until mixture gets slightly thick.
Throw in the vanilla essence and ground nutmeg.
Cover with plastic wrap and store in the fridge until it has chilled, which is approximately 3 hours at the very least. This serves: 8 adults, 12 kids, 30 elves or 1 very thirsty Santa.Old skool eggnog (for the adults):12 eggs, separated
6 cups milk
2 cups heavy/ thickened cream
2 cups bourbon
1+ ½ cups sugar
¾ cup brandy
2 teaspoons ground nutmeg Get a big bowl and using a mixer beat the egg yolks jointly with the sugar for around 10 minutes, until they are firm and the colour of butter.
Add in the bourbon and brandy very slowly, a dash every now and then.
Let the mixture sit in a cool fridge after the bourbon and brandy have been added, for about 6 hours, honestly it depends when everybody will be arriving for the party.
30 minutes before the people start to pull in get the milk and stir into the chilled yolk mix.
Stir in 1+ ½ teaspoons of ground nutmeg.
In another separate bowl, beat the cream with a mixer at a high speed until the cream forms stiff peaks.
In yet another bowl beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
Softly fold the egg white mixture into the egg yolk mixture.
Softly fold the cream into the egg mixture. This serves: 8 adults, 3 reindeer or 1 person who has just experienced true Vindaloo curry .I hope these 2 recipes will help you get through the festive season a little more easily…well I know one of them will at least.
MERRY CHRISTMAS.Duncs.
