Turban Fashion

turban fashion

Greetings all.

It seems that fashion styles gripping the world’s attention at the moment stem from a particular societal demographic.
In other words, where a piece of clothing that may be common place to a specific religious group is adopted and used in a wide spread fashion trend.
In this case being the turban.

Yep the head gear of the dunes is making a comeback of sorts these days and seems to be sucking in fashionista’s by the droves.
Truthfully the turban craze has been around since last year (2007) and has infiltrated the Western head wear market with a subtle yet ass kicking force.
2008 also seems to be the year of the Western Turban and will undoubtedly carry on being used as a major fashion must until next season.

So, who is responsible for making the turban popular amongst the obviously “originality starved” fashion world.
Well it seems that all signs point to Prada being responsible for the push to these rather elaborate head dresses, where silken material was used in conjunction with a rather miniature version of a turban.
Many referred to the Prada turban as being “full blown”…which is rather funny because when I think of what a full blown turban looks like the first thing that pops into my mind is a tuareg style turban…which is mega elaborate, where a Prada turban is very simple.
I think what is meant by full blown is rather that the style of turban differs from the more recent head band style turbans, seen worn by one of the Olsen twins and Nicole Richie.

One thing’s for sure you have to be either brave, or really influential in your particular circle of influence to actually pull this turban craze off…the majority of reviews I have read on the turban style is rather negative and rather asks readers how long they think the craze will last.
Personally I don’t see this turban trend going on much longer, maybe until the end of the season, however there is always somebody trying their best to stand out in a crowd and let’s face it…a turban is a good way to go about it.

I think that the more subtle turbans using soft metallic fabrics really look cool on some women, but pushing the envelope and using heavier and larger fabrics just doesn’t work on ladies in my opinion.
The bigger turbans will always work if used in a purely religious background and by the actual religion in question, but posers who step out into the sunlight wearing one of these things are just asking for hurled abuse.
Oh and airport security at JFK aren’t particularly friendly to people wearing turbans…but hey ignorance just does that to people ;)

What do you guys think of the turban trend? HIT or MISS
