Tatsuro Horikawa Fashion

tatsuro horikawa

Ohayo minasan.

Today I thought we should look at an international fashion designer who is making huge waves in his home country and even internationally.
His unique dark gothic style has gained serious reputation and grows a cult following.
This progressive Japanese designer goes by the name Tatsuro Horikawa and runs the up and coming Julius fashion label.

So, how to define Tatsuro Horikawas’ Julius style.
Basically, in a nutshell his style is made up of primarily dark colours (predominantly black), which are expressed in flamboyant gothic formations.
One would think that that with just the use of black the designs would be limited and seemingly blend together into a blur, however his attention to detail and varied use of texture ensures that each piece of clothing has its own voice.

Ed Hardy Clothing

Bzzzzzz ouch….not bad ;)

As far as trendy clothing goes, one of the most influential new labels that has exploded on the South African clothing scene has to be the extremely well known tattoo style designs of Ed Hardy.

Ed Hardy (Don Ed Hardy) was originally a tattoo artist who grew up in California and trained as an apprentice under the mega tattoo master Sailor Jerry.
While Ed Hardy was still doing his apprenticeship under Jerry he earned a qualification in print making.
His design style can be seen as a design fusion between two cultures, while there is undoubted old school tattoo elements to his work, (such as the biker style snakes and skulls) he has a distinct influence from Asian styles.
Ed Hardy even travelled to Japan where he learnt traditional tattoo art from many of the finest masters.
Staying in Japan for so many years has definitely left an impression on his style and it can be seen in the flamboyant and highly detailed work that he produces.

Gladiator Sandals

gladiator sandals

Greetings all….or should I say Ave Centurion!

Yep once again a “fashion trend” (if you want to call it that) from the far reaches of human history has made a comeback.
This time the “blast form the past” that has been resurrected is a style of footwear that was used way back when Caesar was being stabbed in the back by his best friend.
Citizens of the republic, I give you….the gladiator sandal.

The heavily strapped and stylized gladiator sandal has indeed come back from the grave, at first I thought it was a joke, that was until I watched last week’s Top Billing and saw a segment on the up-coming summer seasons “must haves” for the beach.
Gladiator sandals have made a huge comeback and can be found in anything from traditional leather to plastic gum styles…I even saw a pair of green snake skin-esque gladiator sandals on some poor fashion victim this weekend.

Bracer Fashion

duncan bracers

Hi there one and all.

Bracers seem to have become all the rage once again with everyone and their pet velociraptor having their own bracer to match their individual personalities.
Hmmm well maybe everybody but me.
Bracers have indeed been around since time in memorial.
Just how long ago you ask? Try the Bronze Age my friends.
Yep, now that’s a fashion statement that has stuck around through thick, thin and nuclear devastation.
Bracers are just as hot a fashion nowadays as they were all those hundreds of years ago.

So what are the mysterious origins of the now uber popular bracer, well as I said it was way back in Bronze Age Europe where bracers made of stone were used to show levels of stature amongst different members of society, early fashion trend setters if you will.
However the leather bracer which has been used for thousands of years, had the most practical use…that being for archers to wear on their arms to protect them from the bows string…dude have you ever tried to use a bow without the use of a bracer, it hurts reeeeeal bad, especially after a few shots.
I honestly thing the veteran archers purposefully don’t give you a bracer at first, just to see you sting the heck out of yourself…sadistic people right?!
