PSL ABSA Premiership Upsets

PSL

Soccer in South Africa is huge. Every year the sponsorships in the PSL get bigger and bigger and the skills of our local players become more finely tuned with every game.
I myself am not a super huge soccer fan and if I do watch footie it’s usually the overseas teams…not very patriotic of me I know. But that’s about to change.
Last night I was watching the news and stumbled upon an interesting story about the ABSA Premiership, that is, most of the dominant bigger teams have been destroyed by the “normally” smaller weaker teams.

What a surprise…and a pleasant one at that, I’m always an underdog supporter.
I hate it when the big well funded teams buy the best players and equipment, have the best facilities and basically walk all over the other teams.
When the “weaker” (weak no more) teams blast the big boys, who are too busy worrying if their hair is ok or if the cameras are pointed their way, I really have to smile.

clubs or fight clubs?

What is it with clubs these days? Do they want to chase customers away?

Durban has a very small night life scene and when a new spot opens up it seems as though everyone over the age of 18 will flock there. The club/pub normally experiences a good first couple of months before things die off in a big way. Now over the past month there have been stories coming in all the time about patrons being beaten up, robbed and verbally abused at different clubs. I was one of those people who experienced this at a new “club” that has just opened up in Florida road.

I have been to this new spot twice in the past week and was not overly impressed. Everyone was raving about it but listen people, you need to open your eyes and see things for what they really are. This place is average at best. The only thing going for it is that it is new.wow. As you would expect this place was pumping on a Saturday night. I arrived quite late with a few friends only to be pushed around at the door in front of everyone sitting in the outside area. To say it was humiliating is putting it really lightly. My mates and I will never go back there. Well done.

Another incident that has come to my knowledge is that of a local DJ and good friend of mine being assaulted at one of Durban’s oldest clubs for no reason. This guy is one of the top dogs in the deep house culture of Durban and some over juiced bouncer thought that he could man handle my friend leaving him with a dislocated shoulder, cuts, a stolen phone and iPod. The club owners reaction…”It wasn’t us”. What the hell!

As I was saying earlier, Durban is a very small place when it comes to the social scene. Word spreads quicker than a nasty STD. The people that own social spots need to catch a wake up and take a leaf out of the book of Society in Florida Road as they have their systems jacked. You always feel safe, welcome and if you don’t have a good time there is something not right with you.

So now my options are kind of limited at the moment. Hopefully someone smart will come along and give us somewhere to party and feel safe.

Rocky Burning your Bridges

burningbridges

It’s a choice we all make. We choose to end relationships in ways that are unreasonably final. Burning your Bridges is what we call it.
Today’s Tshirt of the Day is a literal look at this expression.
Rocky has really done a clever one here. It’s simple yet carries a powerful message to us all.
Burning your bridges can be a dangerous long term move that can leave you kicking yourself.

So you walk into your bosses office after 5 years of perfect service and annoyed at your subhuman treatment throughout slide him a copy of your resignation….followed by a barrage of swear words and a cup of water.
Less than a year later your new company goes bankrupt and you are left without a job, the only available position being at the firm who’s boss you soaked. This is Burning your Bridges.

Sometimes Burning your Bridges, no matter how hardcore and insensitive it seems, is the best choice of action.
In relationships that go sour and you are the brunt of emotional battering, sometimes it’s just best to leave that person to their own world. Some bridges are meant to be burnt perhaps, that is if the “thing” at the opposite side is like a parasitic emotion sucking leech from the pits of hell.
