Taming the beast

When it comes to 4am and the club owner starts pushing you out the door, you are either going to find another spot to continue the party or you’re going treat your taste buds.

Call it what you want, a midnight snack, a babalaas blaster or take away-at the end of the night you know will beg, borrow or steal to get something special for that beast down under. In Durban, no clubbing experience is complete without a trip to Jonny’s.

Durbanites like their food green-chilli hot, Sunrise Chip-n-Ranch, affectionately known as Johnny’s in Overport is the only go to spot after a crazy night. Johnny’s is the morning hangout of Durban. This hole in the wall (literally) is buzzing until the wee hours.

Specialising in rotis that can sink a ship, Johnny’s has been around since the 80’s serving peeps from all walks of life. From seeing Local celebs to tramps having a tussle outside, this spot caters to all. The main attraction is the chip and cheese roti going for a cool R18-00. This thing is the size of a Jack Russell.

I haven’t been brave enough to sample one of their meat dishes, always sticking to the chip, triple cheese with mutton gravy. If you’re brave enough, try the meat dishes, you might just regret it later but man it tastes soooo good!

If you have never had the guts to make a visit, try this…take one bite. You will be hooked. Ultimately all nights end at Johnny’s.

Caught in the loop with Goldfish

GOLDFISH … store that name in your memory for longer than 3 seconds, because these guys are going places faster than you can say “Goldfish-aren’t-fish that-are fish-that-are gold-but-don’t-play-musical-instruments-like-Goldfish”.

Undoubtedly the freshest act to come out of South Africa, Dom and Dave from Goldfish truly have the dance scene wrapped around their finger. Their unique blend of cranking deep house grooves, local samples and live instruments create a spur-of-the moment, cutting-edge live remix performance that keeps you begging for more. People thrive off this element of their show. Unless you are being crunched up in the front row, watching their every move, you won’t be able to grasp how good these cats really are.

Craze Ask your Father Design

goaskyourfather

Hello one & all.

So tell me, how many of you tried your luck with bringing home some arbitrary dog, in the hopes that your mom & dad will let you keep it as a pet?
Being a kid you never truly understand which animal is a keeper, which is for the scrap yard or….well if it’s a dog at all LOL. Craze has designed this wicked cool t-shirt which plays on this old joke and adds a little bit of steroids to the mix. “Ask your Father”, has to be one of the funniest designs I’ve seen in a while.

Were you one of those kids that would drag some poor defenceless hound back to your place to try and get it permanent residence? Most of those dogs merely step out to get some fresh air, or pee on a fence or go and bark up the dog next door…in any event its kidnapping.
Truthfully I wasn’t really one of those insane children, in fact growing up we had so many animals we had no space for more, even if we tried…no dogs in my bed thanks.
The biggest culprit for these kinds of transgressions was my mom, who is an avid animal crusader, she would always find strays and either try and find them homes or take them to the vet to get checked for a ID chip.
We usually ended up with dogs camping in our garage or out the back for weeks, until we found the owners…and all the time having to keep our dogs separate from them to avoid a blood bath.
Of course the “beast” from the Ask your Father design is in no way a defenceless pooch who can be dragged around easily. I’m not sure what I’d do if my child brought an animal like that home…probably say my prayers and dive for the shotgun….lol jokies…besides the Ask your Father beast will undoubtedly need more than a shotgun to put it down…maybe semtex or dynamite.

Ask your father is an awesome design from Craze and the colour they used for the shirt (golden yellow) really suits the print itself. There’s a great mix of elements in this design and the content is funny whilst also being cute and having a hardcore edge…so it will appeal to a broad range of characters indeed.

What’s the scariest thing you ever brought home?

Duncs.
