Grumpy Jozi Love Jozi Design

ihatejozi

Ello Ello Everybody.

Dropping to the ground at the sound of gunshots, watching an ATM get pulled out the wall by a stolen bakkie or perhaps getting tied up and gagged to your lazy boy by an unauthorized person in your own home. The Tshirt of the day is inspired by these normal daily occurrences, in good ol’ Joburg. The funniest thing about this design is that it was done by the local label Love Jozi.
Have a look at the old school image of Mr. Not-so-happy entitled: Grumpy Jozi.

This design by Love Jozi is indeed a smart and cute little design, although I have gotten a few funny looks during the holiday season from a few Joburg locals….and understandably so. Grumpy Jozi is perhaps an inward look at the lifestyle they have up there, Gangsters Paradise as it’s aptly known, is no walk in the park. Being a Joburg label I think Love Jozi can get away with making a design like this, I’m sure all hell would have broken loose if it was a Durban or CT design J

Following the trend of this seasons Love Jozi gear, the design is smaller and simple in comparison to last season’s loud designs, but it works really well. I enjoy the material of the shirt itself, very soft and feel’s amazing against the skin. It’s a good quality garment that’s for sure.
Not sure if I’m too sold on the design but it’s a great play on the old favourite of Mr. Smiley.

What do you all think, would I get beaten up in the street if I wore it in Joburg or would it all go down as if aided by a spoon full of sugar?

Fiftees Africa Unplugged Design

africaunplugged

Greetings everybody.

Time once again for the Tshirt of the Day. Lately I’ve been show casing our very talented local flava and today is no different. We are all getting pumped up over the local brand Fiftees designs because….well because they are super high grade weapons quality designs that blow everybody away with a TNT kaboom to the brain.
Todays Tshirt of the Day
from Fiftees is entitled: Africa Unplugged.

There has been a keen interest in musically inspired designs lately, from the classic “I’m Playing” design from last season, or the retro “8 track” print, even the very modern funk design “Electronic Psychotrope” from Tuning has a music base.
In a similar fashion the local designers have been busy with their own designs of this genre.
Fiftees Africa Unplugged
is a fantastic stylized image of Africa done with audio cables in a carefully wound fashion…the effect is very unique.

Inside the Africa design there are also images of birds flying, which in my opinion add a fantastic organic feel to the colder tech element. The birds are a sign of freedom that enhance the designs natural vibe and fusion of modern and natural facets. It’s a great combination and something that most of the many other music designs lack.

I’ve seen similar versions of this design from other labels and of course on the net, but none quite as simplistic yet effective as Africa Unplugged…it’s some serious genius from the Fiftees crew, nice one dude’s.

Does this one have RootS, in your opinion?

Emo Music

EmoWhat is emo music…well let’s see first off emo stands for emotional and it is a genre of punk. It looks like the emo scene has really taken off in South Africa within the last 3 years…too bad that the emo scene has been going for the last 8-10 years….yes people emo music has been around for ages…where have you all been…there have been numerous bands that have come and gone from the scene…some of the bands from the early days are Senses fail, The Early November, The Starting Line, Hot Rod Circuit, Brand New, Dashboard Confessional, Finch, The Get up Kids, …etc…etc…just to name a few…

When emo music first came into being in the States, it was not big most of the bands mentioned above were all underground bands trying to make a name for themselves…I honestly think that the earlier bands had a much better sound than the stuff being put out nowadays…Do yourself a favor and try and get yourselves some of the old albums from any of the bands mentioned above…  There are still some good emo bands out at the moment like: Number one Gun, Terminal, Ivoryline, Yellowcard, Number one Fan, Mayday Parade, Cartel Ever since I first started listening to emo music I fell in love, everything from the singer’s voice to the technical guitar riffs not to mention the overboard display of drumming…I have been playing emo music in my band “Victory at Last” for the last 5 years…ever since getting my taste I wanted to make emo music…what is a nice blend is adding the whole screamo aspect into the sound…playing emo music while adding the screaming element here and there to spice things up…
