YESYESYES – NONONO!!! Was OFF THE WALL!!!
We gave away 2 double tickets to Jarrod and Daleen – lucky guys who got to share a WINNER experience.
Willowvale hotel was JAM packed with awesome people – the kind of crowd where there’s never a fight or nastiness – Just SUPERgood vibes and tunes that are OFF THE WALL.
I really had a most amazing experience – there were 2 dance floors with Mixin Vixin hitting it off with old school electro tunes ranging from Sig-Sig Sputnik to Siouxsie and the Banshees and Leo hitting us with super electro beats from his awesome collection. It was TORTURE! Two fantastic DJs a room away from each other playing DROP DEAD amazing choons!
Mixin Vixin Really understands the heart of electro, and takes the listener through a journey in the genre – it’s really amazing because to pull off a stunt like that the DJ REALLY has to understand the essence of the era as well as the genre topped off with a really awesome knowledge of the media available. If you didn’t live in that era you just wouldn’t be on that level.
DJ Leo is really just fantastic! His choice in music is undoubtedly born from the heart of an artist and a poet (did you know that he is very accomplished in both fields?) – there is a huge amount of subtlety behind the choice of his arsenal which revellers respond to with a “this is just so cool – can’t put my finger on it – but it rocks” attitude.
Following up Mixin Vixin was the Mad Headmekanik – a perfect opportunity to have your head opened up and looked at by a professional to have all the kinks worked out.
Meanwhile Meanboy hit the decks with a KILLER set. I really don’t know what to say – I wasn’t sure what to expect because I have never heard his set before and finally had a chance to scope the scene. OH-My-WORD. If this fella EVER plays at a gig – get your butt onto the dancefloor. The selection of progressive beats he laid down were AMAZING. I rocked my jocks off. His set had all the flavour of progressive that touches the borders of trance but never really breaks into psytrance. Very rare stuff that.
Helge hit the decks next. Boy or boy. Talent in spades. The selection was brilliant and in some ways similar to Leo’s set’s vibe in the choice of really subtle stuff that moves your feet and puts a big ‘ol smile on your face. Let me tell you something : you can’t produce the kind of mind-expanding art like Helge Janssen materializes and not bring forth such amazing music – this is truly the set of the inspired artistic spirit meeting the mind.
Mama Pyjama – Seake – What can I say but BRILLIANT – super masters in the creation of new journeys of electro music. When Seake hit the deck dressed in white lab coats and those cool glasses with lights on either stem – watch out- because the boys are at work in their mobile music science lab engineering tunes for the neXt generation of party poppers. Mein Got. These guys just get better and better.
Watchin these boys at play is incredible – the synergy they have is awesome – truly working as one mind of no mind. Luke and Malcolm are the Shidniz. Did you know that Seake engineer their own tunes right there on the dance floor? This amazing dynamic duo are dj superheroes. Over 80% of what you hear is being engineered for your ears to soak up RIGHT THERE. RIGHT THEN. Cool huh?
To spread the love like Nutella thick and strong – I have uploaded a video of some segments for the night – Like my sister tells her kids : Sharing is caring! (sorry the video is quite dark at times. I need to get some sort of light attachment at some stage ;)… but ultimately what you want to hear are the beats. The rhythm. The melody and the harmony). ENJOY!!!

twas, as always, grand to see you my friend. XXX
