Japan and I are the reason I believe girls belong on stage. I had the opportunity this Saturday night to go and experience one of the most insane SA girl bands playing at the old school (recently pimped up2 cater for new school) pub Willowvale. Any way sat nights line up was just a treat. Us Durbanites where happily exposed to sum of SAs finest music talent.
Japan and I is an all girl band that took splashy fen 2007 by storm. The young band has only been together for about a year now and seems to be on their way to taking over the world. So naturally as soon as facebook started spreading the news that they were to make their way down to Durban, their presence has been highly anticipated. And I can honestly say that I have never seen so many people leave their seats and spots at the bar at the first hint of a girl’s voice.
Not only did these ladies rock the Willowvale stage, but they did so in matching pink polka-dot dresses. These three talented ladies were highly entertaining with an insane stage presence. Their sound is very punk- rock, with a jazzy influence…almost like a SA version of the English band Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
They played a good few songs to a very grateful audience (who thanked them with a vibrant punk circle) and then proceeded to stun us with a punk remix of the school-yard song “if you happy and you know it” which involved a fair amount of screaming and feet stamping…
This gig was extremely rewarding to watch. There’s something really inspiring in seeing ladies get on stage, own the punk scene and completely rock while doing it. I personally left the dance floor extremely impressed and by the looks on everyone’s faces I wasn’t the only person who felt this way. I’m very interested to see what Japan and I have in store for us. They do have their first album out, which I do recommend to you all to go out and purchase…stealing music isn’t cool, feed the starving musicians

Todays Tshirt of the Day goes to the very funny and ultra unique design entitled: Riding Cat.
We have had a super response from this design and for obvious reasons.
So how often do you get to see a gun slinging cowboy, doing his thing Rodeo Style on a giant uber feral kitty cat. Well besides in your deepest darkest weirdest cat dreams, coming across a scene like this is near impossible, unless you have a multi pass all level clearance to some American gene splicing facility in the Nevada desert. Unfortunately mine was revoked after a catastrophic incident with a barrel of toxic waste and a certain 4 star general’s daughter….but enough about that…it’s classified.
Behold the Riding Cat design, I think it’s one of the funnier designs we have in the new range, it’s just so completely arbitrary and makes everyone do a double take. Its colours are awesome too, the cats orange fur against the blue shirt is uber effective and makes it really stand out.
How long do you think the cowboy can hang on to his riding cat? Methinks he will last a grand total of 5 seconds at best…we all know what normal cats are like when they target a tasty fishy. Unless this guy in Chuck Norris with a healthy dosage of PCP, I’m pretty sure he will get smooshed instantaneously by the cat’s power. What do u guys think, 5 seconds, 10 seconds?
