So it’s Tuesday night and my regular Tuesday night viewing of Survivor has been replaced with a local reality show called The Magic Cape Race.
I am writing this as I watch as I can’t conceal my DISAPPOINTMENT in this South African version of the American reality TV show, The Amazing Race.
For those of you who do not know what The Amazing Race is, it’s a reality TV show where a number of teams of people race around the world, following clues to get them to their next destination. The last team to arrive at a destination is eliminated from the race.
The teams literally race from one country to another, from one continent to the next until they arrive back in America. Teams are eliminated along the way and the team to arrive FIRST at the last destination wins the race and a $ 1 million.
The Magic Cape Race is a copy of the Amazing Race but set in Cape Town only.
From the first few minutes of watching The Magic Cape Race, I wasn’t impressed. The narrator, Malcom Gooding, doesn’t stop narrating throughout the whole show! It’s extremely frustrating.
What’s worse is that Malcom Gooding also narrated the South African crime show, Criminal Minds. His voice is quite distinct so if you are familiar with Criminal Minds, it’s hard to view this family show in a fun, carefree way as his voice keeps connecting you with a psychologically violent show.
So the first episode of, The Magic Cape Race, just ended and an advert for the South African TV show, Solving it, came on and the narrator for Solving It, sounds just like Malcom Gooding… enough said.
I wish ALL those participating in The Magic Cape Race, the BEST of luck and Congratulate them for being selected to participate on the show!!
