The eSquared crew headed to artscape tonight before the Midnight Sale to catch international comedian superstar Pauly Shore doing his comedy act.
We’d heard that Pauly Shore wasn’t that HOT in JHB, but we were still looking forward to the show.
First up was Cokey Falkow - now we’ve all seen Cokey before, and think he’s crude but funny. What did we think of Cokey? Crude but funny. Actually, to be honest Cokey was less crude and MORE FUNNY tonight - Cokey, you did well my man! You were really funny! Lauren, (whose boyfriend has South African YouTube equivalent MyVideo.co.za - there Lauren, I did the plug - LOL), LOVED the Cokey act.
And yes, we all realised that Cokey knew that half the audience was probably Jewish, which is why he brought up the Jewish theme so many times! Maybe one time TOO MANY, but did I mention that Cokey was Funny?
Next up was Kurt Schoonraad - I’ve heard lots of good things about this man, but he wasn’t on top form tonight. Apparently he’s REALLY good, so will try catch him again soon.
And then Cokey introduced Pauly Shore. And then introduced Pauly Shore again. And then Cokey decided to introduce Pauly Shore…
You get the picture? Cokey must have introduced Pauly Shore about 5 times, before he actually came on…
…and to be honest, we wished Cokey had carried on introducing Pauly Shore, as Cokey introducing Pauly Shore was far funnier than Pauly Shore himself.
What can I say nice about the great legend Pauly Shore? It was awesome seeing a comedy legend a few metres away from us. It was really cool having a movie star of movies such as - well, can’t remember the names, but Pauly Shore mentioned them repeatedly, and most of them I had heard of.
Well that’s the good stuff about Pauly Shore over with…
His show was DISGUSTING. Not comedy which is crude but funny. Just plain disgusting. Pauly Shore comedy is shock comedy. And shock Shore comedy is just being really crude about Sex. Yes, he tried to tell us a few times about his great movie history which we applauded loudly for, because his movies are classic’s, but the sex humour he used was shocking.
There wasn’t anything clever about the Pauly Shore show! There wasn’t anything particularly witty about the Pauly Shore show. There wasn’t anything that I can say I truly enjoyed about the Pauly Shore show.
Pauly Shore stood up and was the crudest, most disgusting person I have ever heard speak. Most of the time I laughed more out of cringing, can’t believe he just said that reaction, rather than finding him funny.
And then we had to have a few retakes at the end as Pauly Shore was cutting a DVD of the night and had messed up the intro. And even here he was rude and obnoxious - I truly hope he isn’t like this in real life, as I’ve found him really funny for years on his movies, and he disappointed me in a BIG way tonight.
I’m still trying to figure out why he got a standing ovation at the end? I sure hope that people were so shocked by his feeble attempt at CRUDE HUMOUR, that they laughed out of shock rather than anything else…walking out, everyone I spoke to agreed that Cokey Falkow was far funnier than Pauly Shore.
It’s an awesome feeling that home grown talent can be so much better than an international superstar.
Cokey Falkow 1 Pauly Shore 0

I had an awesome night, was great to get out and have a good laugh. But, like eric cringed, at times i too laughed more from pure shock than humour. i’m considering a “Detox from Pauly Shore” support group. i know Cokey can be crude and i don’t always enjoy his shows, but last night i would rather have watched him for another hour ( he was better than i’ve heard in him in a long time!)than endure the vulgarness of Pauly Shore. What a let down! YUK!
It’s no wonder that man is single and only dates porn stars! Scary stuff. BOO HISS Pauly, go back to your country and big up to Cokey - you “DAWG”! (To borrow a line)
Cokey 1 - Pauly Shore 0
Of course it is - Cokey has talent, whereas Pauly Shore relies on looking stupid/ stoned to pass off his stuff as funny.
Someone sponsor Cokey, get his ass to London/ New York and use him as a bloody good ambassador for SA comedy and talent in general.
I saw him play at a club in London some time back with Ninya Benjamin headlining and to be honest its Cokey 2 - Big Comedic superstars 0
He probably used his script from last year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival. I was so appalled at that show that I nearly walked out half way through and I now refuse to watch any early 90 D grade Pauly Shore movie ever, ever again….
