Ever wanted to look like shark attack victim but never had the courage to actually get into the water and let the most feared creature of the depths nibble on your left leg? Well now you can, without ever going through the whole spiel of being tossed and torn about like a rag doll. A little website by the name of by diddo has come out with a small range of eye catching wetsuits with the most intricate and original designs, created to capture and mimic the wonders of the living ocean.
Sick of the monotones of the ocean and a lack of creativity by wetsuit manufactures, the artist in question decided to challenge Mother Nature’s art direction and create a unique visual experience. The first edition of these eye catching wetsuits have come out in four crazy designs, a rusted iron diving suit paying homage to the late Jules Gabriel Verne who gave us the likes of Twenty thousand Legues Under the Sea and A Journey to the centre of the Earth. The anatomic musculature suit, my personal favourite, pays homage to man’s inner strength according to diddo himself. I think what makes this eye catching design for me such a beautiful piece is not that it encapsulates the ‘inner strength’ of man but that under our skin we are all the same organic beings captured for a brief moment of time in an engineering work of art. The last of this eye candy range is a whale shark patterned suit that according to their site, capture’s the brilliance of our natural world. Here are some designs in the pipeline at the moment, which means I’ll defiantly be keeping close tabs on his site.
With custom inks and unique printing techniques, which the artist never elaborates on unfortunately, ‘diddo’ was able to map textures onto the suits to create eye catching designs that evoke the mysteries of the seas. Diddo, often called ‘a next generation creative’ who has a multitude of skills in visualization, photography and concept creation to name but a few doesn’t believe in traditional approaches and therefore tries to blur the boundaries in fashion, design and photography. Its’ all about exploring, being open and taking advantage of new opportunities.
Plush toys are for kids right? WRONG!
These days it’s become big business making unique and truly funky plush toy characters for the artsy-crowd.
I am absolutely fascinated by the astronomical rise of the plush toy in recent years. While I may not be a guru on plush toys, I still have a few favourites that I love to death.
Recently my cousin sent me a link to the very awesome character design site called ‘I Like Characters.com’, who wrote up an informative blog about the unbelievably talented Kitty Lane and her marvellous little Jacabunnies and Jacabob plush toys.
Honestly, Cute doesn’t come close to describing Kitty Lane’s super sweet Jacabunnies and Jacabobs. I’m sure from the picture I have supplied, that you can see exactly what I’m talking about. OH SO CUTE, my girlfriend is absolutely gaga over the little creatures and I only hope that I will be able to somehow get my hands on one of them for her.
It seems that I will have to abduct one of the lovely little Jacabunnies all the way from their natural habitat in the US….although he will most certainly be going to a warm and lovinghome
I’m so enthralled with Duncan’s blog on electric t-shirt design, specifically his reference to old school heavy metal bands, I think I’ll use this golden opportunity to inspire or better yet coerce some unknowing designer into designing some awesome metal tees for us here at Springleap! MuHAHAHAHA (evil laugh).
When I say old school the first bands that come to mind are Metallica, Iron Maiden and Led Zepplin. Metallica was as Duncan said very popular with the Lightning Bolt as it was one of their key symbols on tees, album art, well just about any merchandise of theirs had a lightning bolt on. So Evil! HAHA
In case you have as yet not been onto Google today, let me be the first to say happy birthday to Nikola Tesla. OkOk so the inventor of the Tesla coil and a multitude of other inventions that have shaped our world, may be a long time deceased. However that does not mean we can’t send out a big happy birthday to a man that championed such breakthroughs as wireless energy and radio communication.
Undoubtedly he will be mostly remembered for his work with electricity and magnetism.
So, I thought I might as well look for some funky t-shirts that fit the Tesla theme: electric t-shirt design.
Electric t-shirt design may not be a new one, heck theres probably thousands of electric and lightning inspired designs out there. The first thing that jumps to mind when I think about electric t-shirt design are those classic chunky stylized lightning bolts that you would typically see on a construction sign or the front of a super hero’s chest. Otherwise another concept that pops into my mind are those old heavy metal t-shirts…you know the ones with undead characters with lightning bolts arcing all around them, lol yeah some of those were pretty dodgeJ
